Hey Everyone! How have you been?!!?
It’s been a while since my last post but I wanted to take this opportunity to announce something about which I’m VERY excited –
the release of my first single as a solo artist! KYAA!!!
As you know, since graduating Berklee over 10 years ago (hard to believe!) I’ve been fortunate to be a part of many great musical projects like Women of the World and Terri Lyne Carrington’s band Social Science. But as time moves on - and boy does it ever move, right?! - more and more musical colleagues and supporters have wondered if I’m going to release any music in my own name, with my own personal stamp so to speak.
So, a couple of years ago, I started writing along with various musical collaborators and we’ve come up with a bunch of songs of which I’m very proud and will be releasing one at a time over the next few months or so.
The first one is called Filly. It was co-written along with my musical (and life) partner Jerry Velona and recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham MA. Jerry often refers to me as a thoroughbred 😊 so we wrote this one to express my growth as a person and an artist.
When I was a kid, I was often bullied. Now as an adult, those feelings have sometimes surfaced and been a hindrance to me. I know this is something that many others struggle with as well so I’m hoping that, in addition to telling my own story, the message also resonates with others who need to know that they have tremendous worth and can accomplish all they desire. All of that wrapped up in a 4:18 minute pop/funk tune that you can shake your derriere to!

I will be doing some shows later this summer where we’ll be performing this one and I’ll keep you up to date on those and other new songs to be released after Filly.
